"That's not so bad"

From the moment she walked into the interview room, I could see the terror on her face. I instantly felt for her.

I’m aware that my “normal” working environment of shoots and edits are completely foreign to most people. Even in our world of camera phones in everyone’s hand, most people get nervous when they sit down in front of a professional camera. And that makes sense; we can be intimidating with all the lights, microphones, and camera equipment. That’s why I think it’s not only my job to get the content, but to make production shoots a good experience.

But she was different. She was completely terrified, not just nervous. I had been told she had resisted participating, but she was an expert in her field and it was necessary for her to be involved. I won’t go into all the ways we worked with her to make her comfortable but we did get what we needed in the allotted time frame. As she was leaving, she smiled and said, “That’s it? That’s all you need? That wasn’t so bad.” I nodded and thanked her for her time.

“That wasn’t so bad.” I always hope for a positive experience but in this case, I’ll take it. Gladly.
